We have developed a range of broad sub-themes within which papers and workshops can be offered. These sub-themes are focal points from which to open conversations and are not intended to restrict the content or limit the breadth of the conversations.
These sessions will occur on Days 2 & 3 with more details on upcoming program.
Parallel Session 1 and 2 (a combined session for all WFSF delegates)
Sub-theme: GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE FUTURES
This sub-theme arises from the belief that higher education futures need to embrace new ways of thinking. We welcome contributions in the area of complexity, creativity, imagination, innovation, transdisciplinarity, integral studies, postformal studies.
Parallel Session 3
Sub-theme: FUTURES IN EDUCATION: TEACHING FUTURES
This sub-theme welcomes contributions from course directors and teachers involved in teaching futures studies courses around the world, including case studies, new designs and curricula. Emphasis would be on university courses, but not limited to this.
Parallel Session 4
Sub-theme: HIGHER EDUCATION TO SUSTAIN A FRAGILE PLANET
This sub-theme focuses on how higher education can contribute to the sustainability of the planet. Contributions may include: the impact of climate change on higher education futures; the role of higher education in climate-change vulnerable regions.
Parallel Session 5
Sub-theme: FUTURES OF EDUCATION: DIVERSE ALTERNATIVES
This sub-theme welcomes contributions that theorise, discuss or speculate on diverse higher education alternatives from around the globe. Case studies are welcome as are wild and speculative approaches to transforming the futures of higher education.
Parallel Session 6
Sub-theme: OPEN SPACE SESSION
This will be a facilitated open space session, during which individual delegates or small groups may offer to present a topic or offer a workshop on a theme of interest to other delegates who choose this session.
Parallel Session 7
Sub-theme: ROLE OF MEDIA AND CIVIL SOCIETY IN WAYS OF KNOWING AND LEARNING
This sub-theme welcomes contributions on the role of media and civil societies in creating new knowledge and learning, particularly in the area of positive futures, including positive media, visions of hope, social and civil pedagogical action.
Parallel Session 8 (combining GHEF 2011 and WFSF 21/11 delegates)
Sub-theme: HIGHER EDUCATION FOR THE “BOTTOM BILLION”
The sub-theme for this final parallel session of the conference welcomes contributions in the area of inclusive higher education for the “bottom billion” and the most vulnerable. It is intended to be jointly organised by GHEF and WFSF members.
